When Sarah and Chris first contacted me about their wedding one thing stood out- they were getting married on my 30th birthday. After meeting with them I knew they’d be super fun people to spend my birthday with and it turns out I was very right. It ended up being a colder day in April then it was when I shot my last wedding in February, but they toughed it out against the beautiful backdrop of Fort Edmonton. The wedding day was seamless- it was easy for the guests (but perhaps a little cold) to walk through the park grounds to the little historic Church, over to Kelly’s Saloon for cocktails and then a walk to Egge’s Barn for their vintage wedding reception. I loved the ease and relaxed feeling of the whole day. The reception also had the same relaxed feeling and was full of some of the yummiest Italian food and some the most beautiful cakes I’ve seen. A gorgeous cake buffet was the perfect way to end the day- everyone could try their favourite flavour. Another of my favourite parts of the reception was a unique Rooster pitcher on every table. It’s an Italian Tradition symbolizing good luck at weddings. They were collected lovingly from around the world and made such a great detail of the day.

Thank you Sarah and Chris for such a fun day. Blake and I laughed so much and we both really enjoyed being part of your celebration. You were so much fun to be around that I’ll even forgive you for that whole “stand up while everyone sings to you” thing Thanks again!

xoxo,

When my Elementary Art teacher contacted me to buy a Gift Certificate for her nephew and his new family I was completely flattered. Not only did her message include lots of sweet words, but she knew that a newborn photography might not be the first thing on a new parents mind when they bring a baby home so she organized it all. I believe that Shan & Samia were very grateful for such a thoughtful gift. We ended up being a great match to work together too. Little Seva is one of the most beautiful babies I have ever laid eyes on. And at 6 weeks old, she nursed, interacted and slept wonderfully for us. A perfect modelling debut for an incredibly loved little girl.

Thanks for wonderful afternoon with your little girl. Blog readers, prepare to have your heart stolen….

xoxo

Rachael and Rommel eloped with 50 of their closest friends and family to Punta Cana in April. My little family came along for the adventure. We all stayed at the beautiful Barcelo Punta Cana Palace Deluxe- a fantastic resort for families with children. It may have been my favourite resort we’ve ever stayed it- 3 different water parks for the kiddos, pools, golf and activities galore. It even included a perfect beach that was right out of a magazine. The week flew by and we enjoyed it to the fullest. And I think every guest can agree with that!

The wedding was held on the spa roof top overlooking the ocean. It had a bit of a luxurious Miami vibe- exactly what Rachael wanted. The weather was bright and sunny, which was perfect for the parasols & fans the couple brought down for their guests. Their children led the processional and by the time Rachael walked the aisle tears were flowing freely. I loved how Rommel kept blaming the tears on sunscreen in his eye as he tried to read his vows. I loved Rachael gently wiping his tears away. I loved how they looked at each other and how they laughed their way through the ceremony. The rest of the day continued to be perfect- not a cloud in the sky, so much laughter and so much happiness. I wish we could be back on that beach right now.

Rachael and Rommel, thanks for a wonderful day and a wonderful week. I loved getting to know your family and being a part of your destination wedding.

And then next up on the blog- R&R’s family pictures on the beach- so much fun.

Cheers

Kelsy

This blog got way to long- even with only a fraction of the beach portraits! So no reception pics- but trust me it was a gorgeous open air venue full of gold and pink details.Love it!

Last summer I met Ella and Millie in our neighbourhood park while playing with my girls. They were the exact ages of my own daughters and they were adorable- hard to forget. So when their mom coincidentally emailed me to set up a family session I recognized her daughters names immediately and was excited to be able to meet them again. They were just as adorable as a year ago and I loved watching them play and explore throughout our session. Sweetest little girls to spend an afternoon with- lucky me.

Brandi and John were married on a perfect<del> spring </del>winter day. Considering how beautiful it’s been lately this weddings seems like a lifetime ago, and it feels like just yesterday, at the same time. We had such a good day. Like a ridiculously good day. Temperatures in the minus-a-billion wasn’t going to stop anyone. With Brandi’s infectious laugh and excitement, to John’s easy going nature and sense of humour, everything just seemed to go perfectly. The ceremony was held at the Capitol theatre in Fort Edmonton followed a reception in the Airplane Hangar. They went with a old Hollywood glam theme and they had so many unique details to go along with it. From the cardboard cut-outs of themselves to the movie posters and the pre-wedding movie with the “credits” starring all their bridal party, the theme was executed perfectly. The “Glam” side was all about sparkles and feathers- I particularly liked Brandi’s grandfather’s war medal made into John’s boutonniere and her grandmother’s brooch put into her sparkly bouquet. I could go on and on…..

So thanks Brandi and John for just being super awesome. (And for sharing my love of Pitch Perfect and other random things that we could laugh about all day long.) You just made your day so. much. fun. (And everyone in the hangar can attest to that.)

Hugs,

Kelsy

First off, they brought me some yummy treats (yeah, I’m easy to win over with food) and secondly they weren’t going to reschedule their session for anything. Which was good, because I don’t get to the Calgary area too often and I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to photograph Nathaniel on his 6 month birthday. So our session ended up being a little bit cold (or a lot cold, depending on where you are from) but we went ahead anyway. We ended up having one of the quickest shoots in the history of family portrait shoots, but the beautiful hoar frost made it entirely worth it. Little Nat had adorablely squishy cheeks and the sweetest little smile…not that we saw it often, but hey, at minus 15c I’m not smiling too often either

Thanks again for being fearless clients and braving the elements with me. I may have to start offering more winter sessions because I really think these images are something fun and a little different then the typical summery day shoot. And just so Canadian of us.

Hugs,

Kelsy

Betty and Jason are getting married in just a few weeks now- I can’t believe May is nearly here. It still feels like January in Edmonton and this snow is never seemingly never ending. I know spring is there somewhere, I’m trying to wait patiently, but seriously, come on! However, Betty, Jason and I met on the only rainy day so far this “spring”. We made dreary weather work as wandered Whyte Ave and tried to keep dry. But they didn’t complain at all and we enjoyed our short time together. Turns out Whyte Ave is still a great place to hang out… particularly for the people watching

Now to count down to the wedding, let’s hope for some sunshine!

Cheers

Lyndsy and Danny were married on a cold wintery day. But the freezing winds didn’t stop them, it was non stop laughing and fun that day. They laughed through the ceremony ( especially when Lyndsy accidentally brought out the teacher voice during vows) and it didn’t stop through the reception (especially when their MC brought out a full comedy routine). The entire day just flew by and it seemed that every minute was spent smiling…and shivering perhaps, but mostly smiling.

Lyndsy and Danny, watching you together makes me happy. I love seeing people with their perfect match and it’s so obvious with the two of you. How lucky are you both?

Cheers

Elise and Kevin are two of my lovely 2013 wedding clients. When they asked for winter engagement portraits, I thought they were a little crazy (I try to stay inside till plus15′c. But, living in Edmonton, that doesn’t generally work too well for me, but hey, I can dream, right? ) but I did love the idea of incorperating the best parts of winter into a shoot- a wintery walk, sledding, getting cozy around a fire and a sweet treat of hot coco and s’mores. It was perfect (and delicious!). I loved our evening together, we ended up having such a great time- and I don’t think anyone complained about the cold once

See you this summer!
